Things Happen

I prayed for patience Please God hear my plead Let me be Your servant To meet another's need. I prayed for unselfishness For this I truly knew I am ready for this gift There's nothing I won't do. I prayed for strength, humility But did I pray it through? Will these things happen to me? God, how I wish I knew. I prayed for faith For God my heart will grow With a longing to believe Lord, please let it be so. I prayed to be Christ-like An unimaginable goal Envisioning the Cross, the Lamb Who lives inside my soul. I prayed for gentleness But words came harsh, cruel Teach me how to wipe away The tears of a broken soul. I prayed to love others But I had failed to see I needed God most of all So unfailingly, He came to me.
